4: Caput MUNDI

275 words.

How did I not get a picture of the big sign that say this all over the Capitoline? I had so much fun today. It was a little rushed but we saw the highlights, everyone arrived by our entry time, it wasn’t crowded at all, and got to lunch. I bussed both ways or about 1/2 each way. A good choice for energy conservation. I even remembered to take pictures. I think my studious ignoring of the renaissance and other post antique materials we see is becoming something of a joke. I love it all but I’m only an expert in the ancient and I am realizing the importance of selection and curation to make the most of our time together.

The best part though of being with students is seeing certain things anew, almost as if for the first time. The coffering, the blown glass chandeliers, the breathtaking views, the heady smell of flowers, the crisp blessing for free flowing clean water.

I’ve got a work meeting at 6 pm and I need to attend to some chairing/college business. And need to sort logistics for tomorrow.

  • meeting time
  • packing lists
  • picnic lunch strategy
  • those damn ATAC cards

I’m going to give myself a pass on getting to the full word count. It is my second post of the day after all.

Oh, just wanted to say for the first time I used those tour guide radio mics. Genius but super weird feeling of talking into the void at times.

I’m going to go close my eyes for 25 minutes and see if I cannot rest and get into a different work mode.
