Monday 6/16: Day of the Graffe

518 words, 3 minutes read time.

Last morning in the airbean b :,(. Got breakfast. This is where the graffe day starts. Let me take you guys back. When I was just a wee girl (thursday) we arrived at the naples station and something magical happened. Moussa got a graffe near the ticket machine and because of his kind soul he shared it with me and jessica. This was love at first bite. Fluffy and sugary and amazing. I bought my own and thought about it all day every day. Everything I ate I wished it was a graffe. Jessica also got her own and a bomba ( same thing but circle) and also because she has a kind soul she let me have the rest of hers the night we stayed in the hotel in pompeii. This is where it all started. Saturday they didn’t have lunch at the cafe in Capri and then Sunday the same thing. But I did not give up. Back to Monday morning breakfast. I say “ciao sir do you have a graffe today”, and seeing the desperate look in my eyes he offered me a bomba, which satisfy me, but nothing compares to the one in the station. I will decide more. Jess and I have like 40 ish minutes before our train so I find a bakery that has graffes. We walk there with all of our backpacks and stuff and they are SOLD OUT. THIS IS 10 AM. Ok next cafe/bar I got one but it was stale and not yummy. Now i’m on a mission. I WILL eat the station graffe. We take the train to Naples and put our stuff in lockers then start wandering. Got some more souvenirs, and then went to our ultimate location for the day which was the Complesso monumentale Pio Monte della Misericordia to see the Carravagio, the seven works of mercy. All the little different scenes in it were so cool and beautiful to see and the way caravaggio harmonized and captured them. Feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead. We rubbed the puicinella sculpture nose, and then unfortunately the museum with the veiled figure was sold out so we wandered more. We went to the place we thought the modern willy wonka movie was shot in but turns out that was in milan and this one is just similar. We got food (mcdonalds we are so sorry naples pizza we just couldn’t do it anymore). Now. To what I have been WAITING for. On our walk back to the lockers I had Jessica make a detour because I needed the graffe. Best thing ever exceeded expectations so amazing and fluffy and sugary and delicious. Back to the lockers , I realized I needed more. SO DID THE MAN AT THE COUNTER. PAID FOR 1 HE GAVE ME 2. THANK YOU CHALET CIRO <3333333. Amazing train ride with the graffe. Came home and thought about the graffe the whole night and missed the joy I felt eating it. Will forever think about this store.

Hi Rachel! I’m so happy I got to spend my time at Naples with you. You definitely have an obsession with graffe, and it was so kind for the cashier to give you two while you only paid for one. I hope we can find some type of graffa in NYC, or you can learn to make you own. I forgot we rubbed the nose of that guy, but I already made my blog post.

Hey Rachel, I read the word “graffe” a coupletimes and it is making me reminisce on how good these treats were. It will make me remember this day, and when I am back in Italy I need to get some to bring back home.
